Our full debrief from the World Aquatics Men's U18 Water Polo Championships — how a home-built seven-camera rig held up across a full tournament, and the reviews that decided it.
The World Aquatics Men's U18 Water Polo Championships 2024, held in Buenos Aires, were a showcase of the sport's best young talent — and the stage for our debut as a video-review provider at world-championship level.
We were proud to provide the Video Assistant Referee (VAR) service for the tournament. It was our first outing at a world championship, and the chance to prove what our home-built system could do: raise the accuracy and fairness of officiating so that every decision was as precise as possible.
The tournament ran from 2–9 July 2024 in Buenos Aires — 20 national teams across 62 matches — and we were there as the video-review provider, frame for frame.
The real test was adapting frame-accurate review to the speed and chaos of water polo. Our crew rose to it, delivering seamless, fast verdicts match after match — and the feedback from officials and teams was overwhelmingly positive about the clarity and reliability of the system.
A referee from China told us our system was better than others she had worked with, and the Brazilian delegation asked about bringing us to an upcoming championship in their country — the kind of recognition that only comes from getting the calls right under pressure.
In Buenos Aires we captured at 1080p and 50 fps — the broadcast standard at the time. Since then we've taken the service to 100 fps, with 120 fps on our roadmap, and we're ready to bring frame-accurate review to more competitions and more sports. Precision and fairness, one frame at a time.
